Team Capsule: Sumter High School Gamecocks

The Sumter Gamecocks will be making a return to the Southeastern Baseball Classic in 2022. While the school itself is no stranger to The Jimmy, this will be Coach Curtis Johnson's first SBC experience.

Coach Johnson will bring with him a pair of USC-Union commits in pitcher Hayden Lyons and infielder/pitcher Clayton Goff. This Senior duo, along with fellow Senior Jashawn Benbow, will be joined by underclassmen OF Sean Rouse (#2 OF in '24 by Diamond Prospects) and Junior Bryce Coulter (Florence-Darlington Tech commit) in playing significant roles for the Gamecocks in the SBC.

Coach Johnson is joined by Chad Hoshour and Dean Pack on the coaching staff for Sumter.

SBC Schedule for the Gamecocks:

• Tuesday, April 19 vs. South Florence at 2:30pm
• Wednesday, April 20 vs. Trinity Collegiate at 5pm
• Thursday, April 21 vs. Georgia Premier at 2:30pm

The Gamecocks will also play on Friday, April 22. That game time and opponent will be determined by Tuesday-Thursday’s outcomes.

Jimmy White Park at Kelleytown Stadium, aka The Jimmy, in Hartsville, SC is the host site for the annual Southeastern Baseball Classic. The mission of the Southeastern Baseball Classic to promote the game of baseball, to enhance the lives of athletes through competition and scholarship, and to involve the community by assembling sportsmen in tournament play.
