On behalf of the entire Red Fox Baseball Family, the Southeastern Baseball Classic would like to congratulate Coach Tony Gainey on his 200th career victory. Coach Gainey picked up the milestone win against Carolina Forest in his team's opener at the 2021 IP Classic in Georgetown.
Gainey's quest for 200 was, as you can imagine, delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic. The Elias Sports Bureau is validating this, but it is believed Coach Gainey holds the record for most days between wins 199 and 200 without a loss. 363 days elapsed between victories for the Red Fox skipper. Win 199 came just before last season's shutdown when the Red Foxes defeated Marlboro County, 13-2, on March 13, 2020. That game was highlighted by a monster blast to left field by Owen Taylor.
In Gainey's 200th win, Cam Cannarella picked up the win on the mound, going 5 innings and striking out 7. Harrison Moore picked up the two inning save. Ashani McFarland led the Red Foxes at the plate. McFarland finished 2 for 3 with a triple and 3 RBIs.
Again, congratulations to Coach Gainey on this outstanding career achievement. Go Foxes!
