Team Capsule: South Florence Bruins

Coach Kenny Gray's South Florence Bruin team had a season to remember in 2021. Their 23-5 campaign included a remarkable 15-game winning streak, a Spring Break tournament championship, a region crown and what seemed like 10 Aydin Palmer no-hitters.

For 2022, the Bruins are prepared to follow up their success with another strong showing in a Spring Break tournament and are planning to defend their Region 6-4A championship. Providing experience and leadership for the Bruins will be USC-Lancaster commit Stone Osbourne at first base and Florence Darlington Tech commit JR Williams in the outfield, as well as two uncommitted Seniors, SS/C Parker Winfield and 2B/P Jake Hardee. These four Seniors will be joined by three dominant pitchers in Junior Luke Miller and his classmates, the aforementioned Aydin Palmer and Dylan Weigel.

South Florence also has a trio of head-turning Sophomores in Noah Moore (C/3B), Nathan Gause (OF/C) and Chandler Thompson (2B/P).

Coach Gray will be joined in the dugout by an army of assistants, including Rhodes Dickerson, Brandon Hyman, Trae Allison, Lindsey Robinson, Brian Brown and Terrance Scott.

SBC Schedule for the Bruins:
  • Tuesday, April 19 vs. Sumter at 2:30pm
  • Wednesday, April 20 vs. Paul VI at 9:30am
  • Thursday, April 21 vs. Georgia Premier at 5pm
The Bruins will also play on Friday, April 22. That game time and opponent will be determined by Tuesday-Thursday’s outcomes.
